Alan attended Washington University in St. Louis for his undergraduate studies and did his PhD work on the regulation of the immune response to coronaviruses in the lab of Dr. Stanley Perlman at the University of Iowa. As a postdoc in the Diamond lab, he works on assessing the
role of Fc effector functions of antibodies and therapeutics against encephalitic alphavirus
infections.
